CONTINUATION: APPEAL TO SENATE - Sunday, May 30, 2004
Monday did not turn out to be our lucky day. Neither was Tuesday. In fact, SB2646 was not taken up at all! Before we left the plenary session yesterday, we were promised by senators drilon (senate president and the one who will defend the bill), pangilinan (majority floor leader) and pimentel (our most reliable and consistent ally in the senate) that it will definitely be taken up by Monday, next. When the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995, otherwise known as Republic Act 8042, was signed into law under the administration of then President Fidel V. Ramos, the jubilant response over this significant piece of legislation turned out to be short-lived.
