Reintegration Programs

Fr. Edwin Corros of the Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People was the resource person for the workshop.

In recognition of the lack of reintegration programs for returning OFWs, the workshop group came up with several recommendations addressed to the government, the OFWs themselves and civil society.

Government

It was suggested that the government provide fiscal incentives for OFWs who are ready to do business, and to give access to government financial institutions. They should also conduct consultations with critical stake holders especially overseas Filipino workers, non-government organizations, and government organizations toward the establishment of a reintegration fund for OFWs and their families.

OFWs

The group recommended starting savings as individuals and in groups as a form of investment. They should also organize themselves and provide information on the realities of reintegration among them and their families.

Civil Societies

Civil society is to set up information centers to facilitate access, to verify information to livelihood; to extend psychosocial and health services to OFWs and their families.

Like the OFWs, they should also provide information on the realities of migration among themselves and their families. It was also recommended that a study on the merits of legislative provisions for OFW investors be performed.
