CLOSING CEREMONIES

Ms. Carmelita G. Nuqui
Philippine Migrants Rights Watch (PMRW)
President

Good morning! Let me first thank everyone for sharing their time and views on migration issues during this three-day Conference.

Since last Thursday, December 16, I guess all of you would agree when I say that we would go back to our respective offices and countries, enriched and proud. Why?

Because we were truly enriched by our distinguished speakers as they imparted valuable insights on the different areas of migration. We also had an interesting exchange of views and knowledge during the open forum and thematic workshops.

We are proud because we were part of all these. We learned from each other. We were bound by our common goal of shaping the future of Filipino labor migration.

But our major task has just begun on this final day of our World Conference. It is the ardent wish of the Philippine Migrants’ Rights Watch (PMRW) that we, as advocates of migrants’ rights, take this event as a challenge to pursue what we have worked on together during this Conference. And so, we shall go back to our respective countries, organizations and offices with this challenge.

Unless we see concrete efforts and reforms taken for the benefit of our Filipino workers overseas, we can never be fulfilled and satisfied with what we’ve done during this Conference. We need the continuous support and cooperation of everyone, of groups and individuals, who share our common commitment of protecting and promoting the rights of our Filipino migrant workers and their families.

Rest assured that the PMRW will live up to this commitment no matter what the risks and odds it has to take.

To our dear OFWs, keep up the good work. We salute your active involvement in this important gathering. Truly, you are not just our skilled workers in the international labor market or the dollar earners for our dwindling economy. More importantly, you have proven that you can also be instruments of change, you are prime movers that can uphold and protect your own rights as migrants. And for that, we are truly proud of you.

On behalf of the PMRW, we sincerely thank all of you for your active participation. We hope that this will not be the last but just the beginning of more fruitful endeavors together.

Mabuhay po tayong lahat at maraming salamat!
