» Migrants' Stories, Migrants' Voices

Migrants' Stories, Migrants' Voices presents 12 stories written by migrants and members of their families. It talks about the different faces of migration and the challenges migrants and members of their families had to go through abroad and in the Philippines . It speaks of how migrants faced the challenges of being in a foreign land and how the families left behind coped with the absence of their family members.

This book is a collection of migrant stories that aim to express what our migrant brothers and sisters go through abroad and how their families left behind deal with the situation.

» The PMRW Primer

The PMRW primer contains two important instruments to increase Filipino migrant workers’ awareness and knowledge of their rights.

The primer has two parts: the first part outlines the provisions of the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995 (or Republic Act 8042); the second part presents the rights of migrant workers and their families covered by the Migrant Workers Convention. Although the primary audience is directed at Filipino migrant workers, we hope other migrant workers will benefit from it as well. In line with this, the primer is packaged in two languages, Pilipino and English.

The present primer is an updated and expanded version of the earlier publications. The Philippine Migrants Rights Watch is grateful to Cordaid-Netherlands for supporting this endeavor.

Copies of the primer can be requested from the PMRW Secretariat: Scalabrini Migration Center (SMC), #4, 13th St., New Manila, Quezon City, Philippines or call at (632) 7243512 • 7214296 (fax) or send an email to migrantswatch@pmrw.org

» Philippine Migration Challenges to Hurdle: An Alternative Report

On May 2004, the Philippine Migrants’ Rights Watch (PMRW) strengthened its advocacy efforts when it participated in the first regional hearing of the Global Commission on International Migration (GCIM) in the Asia-Pacific region held at the Makati Shangri-la Hotel last May 17 and 18. PMRW shared its views on migration issues with delegates from government institutions, international organizations, private agencies, and civil society groups representing 31 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

To further explain the many issues affecting Filipino migrants and their families, PMRW also submitted to the Commission its alternative report and recommendations concerning the Philippine government’s policies on labor migration, irregular migration, and the feminization of migration, particularly, the deployment of many Filipino women entertainers to Japan.
